CAPACITY
BUILDING

Invest in leaders, organizations, platforms and knowledge to materially enhance social impact

Our journey into Capacity Building began when our co-founder, Archana Chandra became CEO of Jai Vakeel Foundation in 2013.

Why Capacity Building

The story of our journey in Capacity Building begins with when Archana took over as CEO of Jai Vakeel Foundation (JVF) in 2013. As a leader, she faced a major challenge—donors were reluctant to support the organization as a whole. Donors wanted to support the program but nobody wanted to work on building the organization itself. If NGOs are supposed to operate and deliver impact at scale then they need to be empowered to do so. She brought this issue to the foundation, explaining that it wasn’t just her organization facing this; it was a sector-wide problem. We realised that corporate India has thrived because there’s been a strong investment in institutions and people, giving them the foundation to grow. Now, it’s time to make the same kind of investment in the social sector.

To truly scale impact, we need to come together with like-minded individuals and organizations to invest in both people and institutions. That’s how we’ll create lasting change.

Learning and Development

Why

Indian talent has made both corporate India thrive and powered enterprises globally.  We believe it is because systematic and significant investment have been made in both corporate institutions and people. We strongly believe that leaders are the driving force behind an organization’s growth and impact, and so if we want to see social sector deliver on the aspirations we have, by investing in the capabilities of leaders of at least 100 champion NGOs.  Providing these leaders state of the art tools to lead, capability to design innovative solutions, ability to forge powerful partnerships, and knowledge to use data and evidence to influence policy is critical to driving transformation at scale.

Ecosystem Building

Why

Our goal with Ecosystem building is to tackle large-scale challenges that limit NGOs’ ability to solve social problems effectively. We are helping donors increase their contributions and give more thoughtfully, while also strengthening NGOs’ capacity to improve program delivery, measure impact, and scale their efforts. This not only boosts donor confidence but also unlocks more funding to address critical social issues.

What we do

On the donor side: We support partners like Accelerate Indian Philanthropy (AIP), Bridgespan, GIVE, and Social Stock Exchange, amongst others - aimed at providing research, providing personalized guidance, and creating peer networks to help institutional and retail donors give more effectively.

On the NGO side, we work with partners like Tech4Dev to help NGOs with their technology challenges, and with Sattva on the Indian Partner Network platform to address Capacity Building needs of the sector in a systemic way. We also strong believe in democratizing knowledge and platforms like India Development Review (IDR) enable this.
